GALLATIN, Tenn. — There may be a new sport coming to Gallatin Parks and Recreation.
In August, the department asked the community via social media who would be interested in taking on the new sport.
"[Wiffle ball is] a quick, and to some, easier, variation of baseball that uses a perforated, light-weight ball," Gallatin Parks and Recreation Marketing Manager Jenna Maddox said in a Facebook post. "All ages can play, and if there's enough interest, we can start leagues. If you want to start your own team, you only need a minimum of three players."
The department received feedback and interest from several community members.
Leaders in the parks and recreation department even scoped out a spot for a possible playing field on the grounds at the Gallatin Civic Center back in late August.
"It's exciting to know that this sport has garnered interest in the community," Gallatin Parks and Recreation Programs Supervisor Tatum Pryor said. "While we have no definite plans of when we can start leagues, we're thrilled to potentially bring a non-traditional sport to Gallatin."
