[ARCHIVED] Thompson Park Lights: In With the New, Out With the Old

GALLATIN, Tenn. — Gallatin Parks and Recreation is celebrating the installation of brand new LED lights over at Thompson Park.

The new lights are due to the growing impact sports have on the Gallatin community, according to Gallatin Parks and Recreation Director David F. Brown.

"Baseball is making a great comeback in Gallatin," Brown said. "This was a field that hadn't had any improvements on lights in 30 years. With the new LED lights, it's a state-of-the-art lighted field."

However, the old lights are not going to be tossed out.

"The old lights, we're going to try to use them throughout the parks in some areas that don't use them all the time," Brown said. "They're so old, and the maintenance of them is going to be expensive, so we're going to put them in some areas that're not used but three or four times a year."

The Gallatin City Council also discussed giving some of the old lights away to the City of Westmoreland.

"That right now is on hold," Brown said. "They still may be able to get some of them, but it depends on how many we need."

Thompson Park is located at 278 Morrison Street and is open from 6 a.m. until 10 a.m. every day.
